Steamed semolina dumplings stuffed with grated coconut and sugar mix and is an authentic traditional pitha during festive occasions.
Usually, Kozukattai is connected with Lord Ganesha and it is one of the main dish prepared for Ganesh Chaturti.
You could try and enjoy the real taste of Kozhukattai by simple way of cooking.
Take below Ingredients

- For outer layer……
- 1 cup Suji (or) Semolina
- 2 cup Water
- 1 tsp Ghee
- 4 tsp Sugar
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- 50 gm Moong dal
- 1 grated coconut
- 1/2 cup Jaggery
- 1/2 tsp Cardamom powder
- Almond chopped
- Pistachio chopped
- 1/2 tsp Black Pepper powder crushed
Follow simple Steps for Steam Kozhukattai
- Take a deep pan(kadai) and add water, sugar, salt and boil it till the sugar dissolves.
- Now slowly add suji, stirring constantly so that lumps are not formed, keep stirring till the mixture become thick.
- Take it from the flame and keep it aside till the mix is cool.
- In-between heat a pan add grated jaggery and boiled moongdal in low flame till light brown and add cardamom powder, crushed pepper , chopped almond and pistacho and keep aside.
- Take ghee in your palm and knead well the rawa to form a dough.
- Now make equal sized balls from the dough, flatten it on your palm, stuffing Moong dal in it.
- Now close it from all sides and making a ball (or) put it in the kozhukattai mold.
- Prepare all the dough like this and steam cook for 15 minutes.
- Now Softy and tasty Steamed Kozhukkattai ready for eat.
Follow simple Steps for Fry Kozhukkattai
- Follow first 3 steps given above
- In-between heat a pan add grated coconut and sugar in low flame till light brown add cardamom powder, chopped almond and pistacho and keep aside.
- Now make equal sized balls from the dough, flatten it on your palm, stuffing Moong dal in it.
- Now close it from all sides and roll it as flat.
- Fry it in the oil till golden brown.
- Now crispy and tasty Fry Kozhukkattai ready for eat.
